Top 10 Fisting Lubes – The Experts Guide

With 35 years experience as a top fister, Henk FF-Vantilburg is the author of the popular global All About Fist blog, and is a member of the Spanish Leather & Fetish Community association.

Through years of practice-makes-perfect fisting his partner, János (titleholder for Mr Fetish Leather Spain 2017) and a seemingly endless stream of horny subs willing to open up for him, Henk has had a chance to seriously contemplate the full range of fisting products available and has come up with his top 10 best fisting lubes for hole-punching aficionados.

10: Elbow grease. This is a popular product with many and for good reason. It has a smooth, creamy texture and when lathered on thickly it can help glide a steady arm into a puckered hole. But Elbow Grease can be an expensive item for regular fisting forays. One tub might just last one night or god forbid, even run out in the first few hours, which means if you got started after midnight, it might mean a quick trip to a late night sex shop (if you live in a city that has one), or a 24 hour supermarket, searching the baking shelves for Crisco (see number 4) with one hand, while steering around your sub still hand puppeted on the end of your wrist with the other. (It’s okay, kids and grandmas aren’t shopping at that hour, so you’re fine.)

9: Elbow grease RED. Several of the cream-based fisting products like Elbow Grease, MR B FIST and even Boy Butter (see entries 7 and 8) come with heat options, a bit like muscle pain-relieving sports creams. These can help relax the sphincter muscle of a fistee but, Henk warns, using these creams for extended play needs to be treated with caution as overuse can mean limited sensation around the anus. This reduces the body’s feedback loop of knowing what the hell is going on down there. Fisting requires good communication between the top and bottom, and a bottom’s ability to guide the top through body language (both in facial expressions and sphincter muscle responses) can be restricted when using heat creams.

8: Boy Butter. Like Elbow Grease, this is a good option. “It’s creamy but still very liquid, which makes it very pliable and great for sliding your forearm in and out,” says Henk. But as with Elbow Grease and FIST butter (see entry 5), the biggest negative for these creams is that they are costly. So a full night of play might require two or more tubs. Repeat that twice a week, or even just once every weekend, and it adds up until fisting becomes an expensive hobby on par with equestrian dressage or collecting homoerotic antique Greek vases.

7: (equal place) BOXER and MR B FIST lubes

“There are a number of house products from BOXER and MR B and others that are a generally cheaper than the branded options,” said Henk. “But you do need to experiment with the different options and find which one works best for you. This goes for all the lubes and fisting creams, everyone has to try for themselves which one works best for their body.” Henk says you can often ask for samples with most of these store-branded products.

5: K-creme and K-lube products. For regular fisting sessions, K-creme and K-lube products certainly do the job, says Henk. For the powder option, Henk says that like J-Lube (see entry 2), K-Lube powder allows for extended play sessions without the second mortgage costs of cream-based products.

4: Crisco. Henk admits there are a few negatives to Crisco that need to be taken into account. “It’s not for everyone. It smells horrible, and some people are definitely allergic to it, so if you are a bottom and planning to use, it may be best to check a week in advance if you have any reaction to smearing it over your hole. But for me, it is still the only fisting lubricant where you can lick the arse out after you have fisted for a bit, which is definitely an advantage for me,” says Henk. So in Henk’s case, it can also cause high cholesterol, which other tops may need to consider. Crisco is also difficult to shower off afterwards, so plan for a long cleanup time, and it does have palm oil as an ingredient which is linked to large scale deforestation. Fisting should be about destroying a hungry sub’s hole, not the planet.

3: FIST butter and FIST Lube powder. Of all the cream-based fisting options, FIST Butter is Henk’s favourite. “It’s a little like Crisco, but more like butter, just like its name. It deserves its popularity. It remelts with heat, so if you take a short break and return to your hole-punching, it lubes again well with a bit of friction.” And he says one of the big benefits of the FIST powder is that it is one of the easiest to clean up afterwards. “Actually, when cleaning up, the best thing afterwards with these products is to use dishwashing detergent. All other cleaning products really only smear the creams and lubes around and make it worse. But keep your liquids compartmentalised: detergents are for cleaning up. NEVER use shampoo or detergent for playing, even if you are desperate and have run out of everything else,” urges Henk.

2: J-Lube. Out of all the off-the-shelf products, J-Lube comes in as top dog for top fister Henk. “It’s cheap, so you can use it a lot. From one bottle you can make 30 litres of lube, so you don’t need to be conservative when you are playing. No one likes a conservative fister.” Henk and János say you can prepare J-LUBE in advance so you are not rushing to the kitchen in the middle of a play session to cook up some more lube. Use drinking bottles, like the water bottles for cyclists that come with a push-pull top. You can boil water the day before, prepare the lube in the water bottles, and then give it a day to cool down. It can make part of a great preparation ritual to get you in the mindset for the play session, too.

1: DIYL. Like concocting a magic potion to create an open sesame situation (under a full moon, mix together half a vial of a leather daddy’s spunk, tears of an ass virgin, and three red hairs plucked from a ginger musclebear’s pubis), Henk and János say the best lube is actually a combination of several of the above options. “Because the creams are so expensive, what a lot of our fisting friends, and us too, what we do is make a mix that includes, say FIST butter and J-Lube. You can make the mix the day before and put it in some water bottles.” They also note there are a range of over-the-counter numbing creams like lubristesic (in Spain), or lidocaine (in US) that can be mixed in as well with the FIST butter and J-Lube. Again, it is important to check how your own body reacts to these sorts of creams. Some people mention, for example, that lidocaine may be great on the night, but you end up shitting liquid afterwards. You don’t want to be sitting on the toilet while your bum is saying “Abracadabra” for the week after.

“Do It Yourself Lube is definitely our favorite, it takes the best of everything. But remember that different lubes have different reactions on your body. So really, while this is my top ten, you need to try for yourself and see which ones don’t make your skin feel dry or itchy, and which ones work best for you,” says Henk.
