What do you think of the current fansite fad?
I love them. I love them for several reasons. Firstly, they empower the sexual individual. For example, if you live in a remote place and can’t make your way to a city where studio production happens, you can build your own functional and financially rewarding empire. Secondly, from what I’ve seen, this direct and individual production enables immediate and honest sexual expression. Thirdly, they seem to engender small yet strong communities of interest. I’ve seen terrible junk result from the sites, but I’ve also seen some great stuff. I’m in favour of them.
Who is your biggest battle with now? The gay porn industry, big pharma, the condom nazis, or regulators?
Well, actually none of those that you list!
To be brutally honest, the biggest battle is against the general ignorance of young gay men concerning their sexual, historical, and cultural heritage. I’m working on a book that includes tiny biographies of around 1,000 men whom I think gay men need to be at least glancingly aware of. The list includes artists, authors, filmmakers, scoundrels, poets, athletes, dancers, philosophers, and political figures.
Gay men are essentially different from straight men – really, in every way. It’s not just lamentable, but also dangerous, not to know about where we’ve come from, who we are, and how we function. You can’t understand gay sex unless you understand gay dancing, writing, thinking and so on. We’re at a political juncture where our simple existence isn’t enough. Society needs for us to be optimally functional and socio-politically effective. Knowledge of our own natures is the root of our strength and the source of any possibilities we may have to build positive gay community, positive gay influence, and enduring gay power.
What film are you most proud of?
‘Sexpigs at Play in a Man-Tramp Promised Land!’ The one I’ve just finished. It’s the best thing we’ve done, in my humble opinion. There’s a huge gangbang sex-brawl that pretty much defines what I believe sex should (and can) be. I called it ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’. And it is – and all men can get there at any time.
Who do you admire in the gay adult industry?
Anyone who perseveres and tries to realise the depth and beauty and complexity of men and their sex on film. I don’t care if they fail, so long as they try their damnedest.
Will there ever be TIM events across the globe?
Yes. They’re in the works as we speak.
Would you really have paid Anderson Cooper a million bucks to do bareback porn? And who would you cast him with?
Absolutely! Who would I cast with him? Anyone he wanted. I aim to please.
