LFC releases statement regarding discrimination by CSD Bremen

Statement by the LFC Leather & Fetish Community e.V. on the discrimination of the fetish community by the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Bremen + Bremerhaven e.V.

The LFC Leather & Fetish Community e.V. as the umbrella organization of the German-speaking leather and fetish clubs as well as the member clubs have taken note of the publication of the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Bremen + Bremerhaven e.V. with great astonishment and dismay. People in fetish are not allowed to participate in the CSD Bremen. The reasons given by the organizer for this are more than flimsy. But it clearly excludes a large part of the queer community.

Allegedly, fetish people discredit the political demands of a CSD and participation would only be a sexual statement. In what world does the board of the CSD Bremen actually live? Has it been forgotten that it was precisely the gay fetishists who took up the fight against discrimination? That the founding of AIDS organizations goes back to the initiative of the fetish community?

With this type of overt exclusion, the personal rights of a large part of the community are violated. And with the exclusion of certain members of the population, the darkest period in German history began.

Homophobia is slowly but steadily becoming socially acceptable again in Germany and the rest of the world. Here it is important to act together against it and not to pour fuel into the fire from the community. The CSD Bremen has evidently moved a long way from this.

Which forces does the CSD Bremen want to give advance obedience and act as moral police? The utterances are a clear case of internalized homophobia. It has been shown time and again that those who instigate the worst are themselves affected.

The statement announced by the CSD Bremen is now available. This represents a further insult and a slap in the face of those affected. Originally it was clear: “Fetish representations are undesirable.” A choice of words that did not allow any interpretation. Not a word of apology in the statement. Now comes the statement that the fetish community is potentially only interested in the representation and execution of sexual and provocative acts during a CSD demo. Instead of apologizing, another mere insinuation.

We expect those responsible at CSD Bremen to apologize to the community and especially to the fetish community. From the political leaders in Bremen, we demand a clear distance from the CSD executive committee, but instead of Sunday speeches, concrete actions.
