After 2 years of having to postpone the UK’s flagship event it is great to announce one of the tentpoles of the gay fetish circuit calendar the hopeful return of Fetish Week London from Saturday 9th July – Sunday 17th July 2022.
FWL as it is known is the main event of the year run by the British based Internationally popular gay fetish hook-up and lifestyle site that we all use, Recon. Their team is well known at all the big events from San Francisco to Chicago, DC and right across mainland Europe and they use their expertise acquired from their many years in the business & at circuit parties to put on a full 8-day schedule across all London’s many exciting gay fetish venues linking with all the Cities biggest brands, venues and promoters. Traditionally there is an incredible Sunday night opening multi-fetish event followed by individual tribe socials, retailer events, dinners, fetish film screenings, sportswear, rubber, bear, leather & puppy parties and endless other both official and unofficial happenings across the metropolis. It all leads to a massive Saturday night must attend dance and cruising party followed by some fun horny Sunday action too. Traditionally fetish week starts the day after London Pride where Recon & Leather, Puppy etc walking groups all take to the streets in front of 3 Million bemused supporters. At time of writing Pride has not fixed its date after moving it to September from its traditional slot last year due to the pandemic so check their website for more information on that possible link. The march will happen at some point as this is the 50th Anniversary of Pride in the UK so should be a big one not to mention that the UK will be celebrating all year long the Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee commemorating 70 years on the throne of the UK and Commonwealth so a fantastic opportunity to visit London in its prime if never done so before……and get loads of uncut cock action too!
Mark the dates of FWL in your calendar and keep an eye on all event listing sites, the Fetish Week website itself and the usual recon social page for updated information as the many specific parties and attractions are added. The Recon brand events producer Antoin Strachan spoke exclusively to Alphatribe about FWL.
How has Recon got on during the last 20 months of the pandemic obviously, there were major negatives as regards your own events?
The last 20 months of the pandemic has been as challenging for us, as it’s likely been for many of you. It was disheartening to have to continue to cancel or postpone some of our big in-real-life events and to not be able to see and chat to our members and friends, but we understood the reality of the situation. Safety remained at the forefront of our plans. But these cancellations presented us with new challenges and I think our team did very well. The pandemic saw the launch of our Gear Stays On campaign, as well as our online Cabaret and Masterclass events and not being able to travel also meant that we could dedicate our time to the launch of the Recon Podcast. So, it’s hasn’t been all doom and gloom. Some great projects have come out of it.
After a hugely successful 2019 FWL with many overseas visitors travelling in followed by two years of cancelled events forced on you by rules outside of your control what challenges are there in launching the 2022 event?
The challenge will really be to ensure that people know that their safety is at the top of our priority list, as well as the challenge to make sure that they still have the type of “fun” we know they’re used to having at a Recon event.
At this early stage are there any interesting plans for the week you can let our readers in on?
Closure of venues during the lockdown has presented challenges, as well as opportunities. We are actually launching FWL2022 with a Recon London party on the Saturday 9th July. So, people can effectively party over 2 weekends. We’re excited about that. As we have a great schedule of events and partner events across the city.
How do you plan to keep attendees safe if the pandemic is still on the radar at that time although being at the heart of the Summer should make things somewhat more straight forward?
At this point in time, no one can really know what the summer will be like, but the safety of our event attendees will remain a top priority and we are fully in favour of adhering to any guidelines set by the government and the venues to keep people as safe as possible. Hopefully most venues will keep the vaccination requirement in place for entry. In addition, the venues are all on board with adding additional hand sanitising stations during the event. We also still encourage everyone to wear a mask if they feel safer doing so.
Are you hoping to be involved with London Pride again this year as part of FWL?
We don’t yet know the official date for London Pride this year, so that’s still to be seen. But if there is no cancellation due to a COVID spread, we will definitely be organising a walking group for this year’s London Pride event.
What exciting new plans does Recon have through 2022 for all the horny International fetishmen who regularly use your site for hook ups and who love your brand?
For 2022 we really want to focus on reminding our international fetish community that some of the events they’ve grown to love are back on their travel and holiday schedules this year. And I’m not just talking about London events. I’m talking about international as well. We know how much everyone wants to travel and see their friends and live their fetish openly again. We’re going to fucus a lot of our media and marketing content around reminding people just why they are a part of the Recon kink community. Reinforcing this is going to be a focus for 2022. As far as the app/site is concerned, our engineering elves are always working hard on keeping it up to date. Watch this space.
Antoin added ‘The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a series of curve balls our way and we’ve had to cancel or postpone a few events. But we remain hopeful that things will improve, and we look forward to welcoming you back to a fun-packed schedule of events this summer.
In the meantime, please keep safe, and continue to use Recon to stay connected with your fellow kinksters around the world. We shall look forward to seeing you all again in person, safely, at Fetish Week London 2022′.
