BLUF turns 23 years this week. The pandemic leaves little room for celebration but that has given Nigel Whitfield, administrator of bluf.com, time to work on a new project that must help BLUF grow as a more diverse organisation.
The Black Lives Matter protest in the beginning of the year has raised attention to the matter of diversity around the world, including BLUF. It goes beyond race or color. It’s about age, it’s about accessibility, it’s about communication, … . BLUF recently launched the ‘Why Join’ campaign to spread the word that everyone is welcome no matter what race you are. This to show that the club is open and welcoming all.
But the project isn’t ending there. Nigel wants to set up a team of people that will look into the gaols that must be set to make BLUF a truly inclusive organisation and of course check the progress on those objectives. The panel is called DARP (Diversity And Representation Panel). Nigel aims to find around 5 persons to join the panel of which at least two people of color. This is important as a lot of issues are never known or barely understood by white people.
By the 25th anniversary in 2022 Nigel wants the club to have renewed itself by the findings of the panel. The information could also be made available for other clubs or organisations to optimise their way of working.
