The gay fetish world has been slow to welcome our female and trans brethren. And yes, we understand that leather bars and our scene require a certain sexual vibe that another group can change. Of course, the people that want to be with us in a venue are very worldly wise, they’ve seen it all and are as kinky as any fetish guy. There has been progress. For example, title contests such as the European Bootblack competition have been expanded to include non-male contestants, we’re starting to see a more gender-neutral position emerge. No doubt other tribes will follow and that needs to be encouraged. Over the past ten years we’ve also seen some of our biggest non-male trailblazers and supporters recognised for their contribution. People such as Suzie Kruger of HardOn fame, Bee Borland – the queen of Aussie fetish, and mR Pam – a top director of gay male fetish porn. But still these people are not welcomed in our venues. Despite the progress that has been made, these days should be long gone.
