Back in the 1990s, some wonderful scientists invented a tablet that helped keep HIV-positive guys alive. That was a revolutionary breakthrough in the fight against AIDS. But then came PEP – a morning after pill you could take in case you had an unprotected shag or suffered a condom break. Then came the big one: PrEP While it is available almost everywhere, some countries have limited its supply or charge up to US$1,000 a month. For many, PrEP is still only available on the black market. However, they get it – gay men have adopted PrEP faster than they took to Viagra. A tablet to keep guys safe has mutated into a social necessity. It allows us to fuck bareback as often as we like and with as many partners as we want. That’s not to say that there aren’t still risks – the rates of other sexually transmitted diseases are peaking as a result. Despite this, the gay world has turned condom-free in less time than it takes to get your gear off. Porn, which leads a lot of things in the gay world, is a good example. In 2010, 90 percent of studios played safe all the time. By 2019 that has dropped to just five percent. Condom sales to the gay market have dropped by more than half in the same time.

After PrEP, the scientists turned their attention to Hepatitis C. New advances mean that even this nasty bug can be treated. The latest ‘advance’ is injections for our cocks which keep us hard all night without any sexual arousal. For many, it’s a much better alternative to Viagra. These advances have changed the sex lives of gay men immensely.
